TRACKING, MATCHMOVING, MOTION STABILIZATION, AND ROTOSCOPING

Some shots are impossible to acquire with the use of a tripod or other stabilization methods, and require the use of handheld cameras. In these instances, it’s often desirable to stabilize the footage in postproduction. In this chapter, I’ll show you how to use several plug-ins to stabilize as well as track elements to footage.

When adding elements through compositing into your video projects, it’s important to add a realistic effect of movement as it relates to other layers in your composite. For example, in the blockbuster movie District 9, the space creatures had to match the shaky camera footage in order to seem like they were a part of the background layer.
