Audacity comes with dozens of effects that can transform your sound! This chapter focuses on understanding the different types of effects, and how to use them in general, rather than the details of what every single effect does.

Audacity has effects in two different menus—Generate and Effect. The difference between the two is that the effects in the Generate menu create something out of nothing—you can call them at any time and they always produce sound—whereas everything in the Effect menu operates only on existing audio.
