Look Sideways As Well As Vertically
If your people regard success purely as going up and up a ladder and everybody wants their boss's job, you'll end with a weak and unhappy team.
It's important that people also see success as growing themselves sideways in their roles as well as progressing upwards. Enjoying what they do, priding themselves on being the best they can be, using their talents, making a difference, feeling validated and receiving some much deserved peer recognition now and again for what they bring to the table, should be what true success is all about.
