Topology Discovery
The topology of the network is a description of the manner in which the different network devices are connected. The device topology includes a description of the different devices that are in the network, as well as the characteristics of the links that connect those devices.
There are two different types of topologies within an IP network that you need to know in order to manage policies:
The physical topology, which describes how the different elements are physically connected
The routing topology, which describes the path that a packet in the network would take between any two points in the network
