Abstract

Based on the multifaceted culture of assemblies that is characteristic of the Empire of the German Nation's political culture, this article addresses the question of the genesis of political representation. The starting point of the reflection is that the claim of collective agency of estates assemblies, which is inscribed in the contemporary understanding of representation, can only be adequately described if attention is paid to the media settings with which this claim is communicated to an audience.
