Grundlinien der europäischen Verfassungsentwicklung im langen 19. Jahrhundert

Abstract

In view of the current European integration crisis, the article examines the historic foundations for a specific European constitutionality in the long 19th century. Based on the interim results of an ongoing handbook project on European constitutional history, the analysis of central state organisation, the regulation of political participation and representation as well as the guarantee of fundamental rights in the administrative and constitutional state allows the identification of some baselines in European constitutional history, ultimately revealing a common European concept of constitutionality.
