Abstract

Between the summer of 1848 and the spring of 1849, the Neapolitan Parliament, whose convocation had been made possible by the Constitution issued in February 1848 by the sovereign of the kingdom of the Two Sicilies, tried to reinforce the new political wave, which was supposed to lead the country to enjoy the benefits of modern liberal civilization. The current constitution, however, still granted the sovereign strong prerogatives, and, in fact, contained many elements of an absolutist character.
