Nonmodeled Geometric Detail—Bump and Displacement Mapping
In this chapter I am going to talk a little bit about two applications that are changing the way modelers do their job, ZBrush and Mudbox. These applications are making it possible for artists to model with an incredibly intuitive work flow and with an infinite amount of detail by painting on the model. The basics of these applications can be learned in a day or two; mastering them is more of an artistic endeavor than a technical one. I strongly recommend the use of a Wacom or similar drawing tablet for best results. The Wacom tablet will enable the user to use its pressure-sensitive options when sculpting with either application.
