In the previous chapter, we defined five scheduling decisions in container terminals. To recapitulate, these decisions are:

  • Allocation of berths to arriving vessels and Quay Cranes (QCs) to docked vessels.

  • Storage space assignment.

  • Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane (RTGC) deployment.

  • Scheduling and routing of vehicles.

  • Appointment times to eXternal Trucks (XTs).

The objectives of this chapter are to survey research done in these decisions and then formulate them as Constraint Satisfaction Optimization Problems (CSOPs).
