Mindfulness

Mindfulness is about the conscious directing of attention. Entering flow is largely a function of how attention has been focused in the past and is being focused in the present. Interests developed in the past will encourage us to notice opportunities in the present for exercising our skills against enticing challenges. In this way we can begin to see the relationship between flow, mindfulness and strengths: our pattern of attention over the years contributes to our strengths pattern; together they contribute to experiences of flow and when I am in a flow state I am also in a state of mindfulness. Our opportunities to experience being engaged, use our strengths or experience flow at work are highly influenced by management activity, usually designed to increase work productivity, particularly goal setting.
