Peter Asmus is research director for microgrids at Guidehouse Insights, focusing on emerging energy distribution, integration, and optimization platforms such as microgrids and virtual power plants and distributed energy resource management systems. He has thirty years of experience in energy and environmental markets as an analyst, writer, and consultant. His expertise also extends to renewables such as wind power, solar energy, hydrokinetics, and advanced energy storage technologies.

Peter has been managing Guidehouse Insight's microgrid syndicated research service since 2009. In that role, he has served as the lead author of more than seventy-five different reports covering topics as diverse as different microgrid global market segments (ranging from off-grid, remote communities to direct current [DC] data centers), capacity and revenue forecasts, technology evaluations, and regulatory analysis. During the course of this research, he has also profiled more than one hundred market players active in this microgrid space.

He is the author of four books covering key energy market issues: Reaping the Wind, Introduction to Energy in California, Reinventing Electric Utilities, and In Search of Environmental Excellence. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and he is quoted regularly in major publications including the New York Times, the Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor, and Reuters.
