6.5.5. Application of Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation Control Technique to Multilevel Inverters

The SPWM control technique, which was used for the two-level inverter, can also be used in multilevel inverters for output voltage control and reduction of the output voltage harmonic content. The basic principles of the SPWM control are the same with the only difference that, instead of using one carrier signal, a number of carriers are used, depending on the number of levels to be generated.
