A.1 Definition of Effective Current Density (ECD)

Effective current density for a conductor is defined as the ratio of the total current flowing in a conductor normal to a cross-sectional area divided by an arbitrary area enclosing the conductor.

Figure A-1 shows a cross-section through a region of space containing insulators and conductors. The current in the conductor is given by:
