2.0. Main Steam (MS) System
2.1. Objective and Function of the System
The Main Steam (MS) system provides steam from the source i.e. reactor in a nuclear plant and steam generator (SG; boiler) in a thermal power station. The MS system has the following major functions:
• A source for thermal energy supply to the turbine to carry out mechanical work at the turbine.
• It is the source for many other steam supplies, such as auxiliary steam (boiler auxiliary steam, BAS and turbine auxiliary steam TAS); in many plants the supply for auxiliary steam is taken from the cold reheat steam, (CRH)
• It has the ability to prevent over pressurization of the steam source (if the supply of steam is more than consumption at turbine) by popping ...
