3. Dampers and Miscellaneous other FCEs

3.0. Introduction

In power plants, dampers/louvers, vanes, and impellers are used to control the flow of gas through fans and/or ducts. Butterfly and guillotine dampers are similar to the butterfly and gate valves previously discussed. In this clause, dampers will be discussed from the perspective of their use in a boiler draft system in a power plant. Fan controls will be emphasized more than various dampers. Also, there will be brief discussions on other fan/pump controls, such as hydraulic coupling scoop tube and VFDs, to cover miscellaneous FCEs.
