3. Air Flow Control

3.0. General

Air flow control, a very vital part of the combustion control system, generates the demand and ensures adequate air flow, which is required for complete combustion of fuels as requisitioned by the combustion control system for keeping the steam pressure at its desired value.

3.1. Objective

Air flow control is provided to supply the total air flow at the exact quantity that satisfies the demand of the fuel firing rate, considering the stoichiometric ratio (the chemically correct or perfect ideal air–fuel ratio) and “excess air” to some extent to guarantee complete combustion.
