9. Reheat Temperature Control
9.0. General
As discussed earlier, the exhaust steam from the high-pressure turbine (HPT) is brought back to the boiler for making it again SH steam at a lower pressure but normally at the same temperature as the main steam temperature. Although application of the Rankin cycle in thermal power plants is discussed in most text books on the thermodynamic properties of steam, brief discussions are provided in various sections of Chapters I and II. It is apparent that SH steam is more thermally efficient than saturated steam in driving turbogenerators.
