This chapter discusses the circuit description, construction and assembly of lead-acid battery charger modules, and slow charger and rapid charger for Ni-Cads. When connecting a lead-acid battery to the charger, it is important that the connections are of the correct polarity and the red binding post is connected to the positive side of the battery, while the black binding post is connected to the negative side of the battery. To test the unit fully, a multimeter, set to read current, may be connected between the red terminal on the charger and the positive terminal of the battery; a direct connection is made between the negative terminal of the battery and the black terminal on the charger.
