Concepts of Small-Signal Stability

Abstract

This chapter presents fundamental concepts of small-signal stability problem in power system. Different categories of power system oscillations and its study procedures are discussed. Swing equations and its detail dynamics related to the oscillations of synchronous machine are presented. Concepts of synchronizing torque and damping torque and their contribution on enhancing power system stability have been illustrated. The classical method of small-signal stability analysis has been explained through an example.
