This chapter deals with fundamental research as well as full-scale experience of power ultrasound application to biological wastewater and biomass treatment processes. Power ultrasound’s first application to wastewater treatment plants targeted the intensification of anaerobic sludge digestion to produce more biogas/methane as energy carrier and less solid residuals for disposal.
