The Difficulties of Distributed Application Development

Distributed applications were supposed to be easier to build, deploy, and maintain. My first few efforts at this gave me clear and indisputable proof that this was not the case. In fact, I thought at first that distributed applications could never be done effectively because so many more pieces were involved than before.

After going through the pain a few times, I began to learn that there were indeed common elements in distributed development that could make life much simpler if used effectively. I also learned that the problems I encountered were pretty common to each effort.

Today I still think that distributed applications are quite a bit harder to develop than traditional client/server ...
