Application Server

EAServer is the J2EE-certified application server from Sybase. It supports all industry architectures (J2EE, CORBA, COM, and so on) and supports components written in several different languages, including Java, C++, COM, and PowerBuilder. Because EAServer supports PowerBuilder components, it runs the PowerBuilder virtual machine. This means that it can execute PowerBuilder code, including creating a Web DataWindow. A common question about the Web DataWindow is whether EAServer is required. The answer is yes—an application server is required, and EAServer is the preferred choice. A PowerBuilder component can be deployed to Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS), as covered later in this chapter.
