12SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

In this chapter, we summarize and extend the properties of functions we discussed in previous chapters.

12.1 Cubic, Square Root, and Cube Root Functions

We talked about polynomial functions with degree 1 (in Chapter 7) and degree 2 (in Chapter 9). We can extend these ideas by looking at cubic functions, which are polynomial functions with degree 3.

Figure 12.1 shows the graph and equation of the cubic equation y = x3 − 2x2 − 5x + 6.
