So far, we've discussed how functions can model real-world behavior. To do so, we need data—information that comes from observations or measurements. In this chapter, we deal with statistics, the science of collecting and analyzing data. We use statistics to tell a story about a population, which is a group of individuals, items, or events that we're interested in. Since getting information from everyone in a population is usually unrealistic, we often get information from a sample, which is a part of the population.
