At some point, the height or strength required for a specified antenna installation exceeds the capabilities of trees or cordage, and the methods of the preceding chapter are no longer sufficient. When that point is reached, the focus necessarily shifts to the use of towers to safely and reliably maintain antennas at the desired height.

Typically, we call upon towers whenever rotatable HF antennas such as Yagis and quads are to be installed, although UHF, VHF, and even some small HF Yagis are sometimes mounted (if only for temporary events) on well-guyed heavy-duty masts.
