Chapter Six. Multirate Finite Impulse Response Filter Design

Image

Many times it is necessary to change the sample rate of a digital sequence. A designer is often faced with the task of either increasing or decreasing the sample rate of a signal by some integer or fractional amount. A few examples include the following:

• Interfacing to a follow on system that operates with a slightly different sample clock

• Reducing the sample rate following the narrow band filtering of wideband signals

• Implementing a zoom Fourier transform to increase frequency resolution

• Performing signal channelization to extract a bank of narrow band signals
