Fitting a Line to Bivariate Continuous Data

In Chapter 4 we learned to summarize two continuous variables at a time using scatterplot, correlations, and line fitting. In this chapter we'll return to that subject, this time with the object of generalizing from the patterns in sample data in order to draw conclusions about an entire population. The main statistical tool that we'll use is known as linear regression analysis and we'll devote this chapter and the three that follow it to the subject of regression.
