6LTE Network Capacity Analysis
6.1 Overview
Network capacity analysis based on KPIs is essential for cellular network performance optimization. It aims to reflect network status and to eliminate network issues. Network capacity analysis based on KPIs can be done on a network‐wide basis or a cell basis (via monitoring top cells). It not only helps to figure out and understand network data easily but also helps to align the performance with the pre‐defined SLA (Service Level Agreements). By analyzing network KPIs, we can find out how the network is performing and plan/forecast network capacity.
Understanding user behavior and forecast analysis for different services are key factors during the deployment phase of different technologies. Network KPIs measure and monitor targeted performance while ensuring and maintaining user experience enhancement through a continuous optimization process. This chapter focuses on LTE network KPI analysis to evaluate and detect LTE performance. The analysis in this chapter can be used to benchmark LTE network performance.
The analyzed LTE counters in this chapter were collected for a commercially deployed 3GPP Release 10 LTE network. The analysis in this chapter includes LTE users (connected and active), LTE scheduling, LTE traffic downlink/uplink analysis, TTI utilizations, throughput analysis, physical resource block utilization analysis, modulation and codec scheme, channel quality indicator (CQI), “MIMO” analysis, data connection performance, CSFB ...
