I was recently at a Gartner seminar about data monetization, delivered by Doug Laney. Doug talked about an interesting concept of assigning monetary value to the data your organization has gathered historically. He also talked about the concepts of data bartering and paying taxes using information instead of money (which apparently he mentioned to a couple of IRS officials and enjoyed their reactions).
