Dump Those Deprecated Items
The term “deprecated items” means that the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has phased out these items and you should not use them. A page containing deprecated tags and attributes will not validate, nor will it be suitable for handheld devices, screen readers, or search engines.
I sometimes take over the maintenance and redesign of a web site from another web master. Often the web site is old and full of deprecated items. My first task is to replace all the deprecated items with the modern equivalent. You may be required to do similar work. This chapter will help you to update a web site and also show you how to avoid including deprecated items in future web sites.
