Objective and Learning Outcomes

The objective of this chapter is to introduce the field of managing operations to the reader. After defining operations management and presenting a brief overview of its main functions, the chapter characterizes the most important classes of operations systems. This is followed by a brief summary of the topics of supply chain management, demand forecasting, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
