Let’s describe how to operate a DAW during a recording session and also during mix-down. First recall the stages in making a multitrack recording:

  1. Session preparation. Create project and audio folders, set up templates, plug in mics, assign inputs and outputs, set recording levels, set monitor mixes.
  2. Recording. Hit the record button and lay down some tracks.
  3. Overdubbing. After your first track or tracks are recorded with a good performance, you might want to add more musical parts.
  4. Punching in. Correct errors by recording new parts over them.
  5. Editing. Remove unwanted sounds, fix note timings, create and trim clips or regions, and so on.
  6. Mixing. Set a pleasing volume balance among tracks. ...
