Introduction

One estimation method doesn’t fit all.

Software estimation and sizing concepts have been in existence almost as long as software itself. As software engineering, software technology, and software development processes evolved, a large variety of estimation methods also surfaced. Earlier chapters focused primarily on the function point estimation method. This chapter presents some of the popular estimation methods and their applicability in different project execution situations. The estimation methods discussed here are not an exhaustive list, but they represent some of the methods commonly practiced by project managers and estimators.
