Windows and TCP/IP

The TCP/IP protocols are very much the de facto standard for networking. Windows offers native support for these protocols, along with a simple program, called a wizard, for guiding users through the necessary installation and configuration processes.

To enable effective TCP/IP networking support for LAN connections under Windows, the configuration of three separate components is required: the Microsoft Client for Networking, a Network Interface Card (NIC) adapter, and the TCP/IP protocols. All these configuration steps rely on the Network icon located in the Windows control panel; the following task guides you through the necessary steps required to enable TCP/IP networking within Windows.
