We have discovered that to successfully make sustainability an organizational reality, leadership must put forth bold visions while engaging their organization in different, deeper conversations about the purpose and responsibility of business. Moreover, there must be proactive engagement of the whole system in such a way that: mental models become explicit; multiple stakeholder perspectives are incorporated into the process; and collective interaction yields new knowledge, structures, processes, practices, and stories that can drive the organization forward.
