You can breathe a sigh of relief: In this chapter you get to put aside your graph paper and the many complex, intangible concepts that pre-calculus presents to you, such as the unit circle, conics, and logs. This chapter is dedicated to how you can use pre-calculus in the real world. The real-world applications from previous chapters are each useful to probably a handful of people. This chapter is different because the applications are useful to everyone. No matter who you are or what you do, you should probably understand the value of your belongings. For examples, you may want to know your car’s worth after a number of years and what your credit card or loan balance will be if you don’t pay it on time.
