Gold nanostructures and nano-complexes have attracted much attention in different research areas because of their unique qualities. With its excellent catalysis activity and optical characteristics and biocompatibility, gold could efficiently facilitate both biomolecular imaging and the multifunctional treatment of targeted disease cells/tissues, acknowledging sensitive and specific disease diagnostics and reducing side effects and toxicity of relevant agents.
