Lift and Extract

Just as the source view has two buttons for adding frames to the program, the program view has two buttons for removing frames from the program: lift and extract. You can think of lift and extract as being the opposite of insert and overlay, respectively.

Lift removes the defined range from the timeline, leaving a gap in the timeline.

Extract removes the defined range from the timeline and shifts all the later clips earlier in the timeline, closing the gap. The Shift Tracks option affects an extract edit in the same way as an insert edit (see “Understanding Insert Edits” earlier in this chapter).
