Chapter 9. Creating Titles

No single aspect of a movie makes it seem as finished and polished as a simple title. An opening title fills viewers with anticipation; the closing credits give them a sense of satisfaction. But titles and graphics can serve a great many other uses. Titles can identify the onscreen speaker in a documentary, highlight the company logo, list important concepts in a presentation, or subtitle foreign-language footage. Even narrative projects may use titles within the program—for example, to identify a change of scene or time: “The City on the Moon,” or “500 Years Later.”
