“Version 2.0” is special. In some ways, it’s more special than the software’s debut, or even the versions to follow. Literally speaking, the designation, “version 2.0” denotes the second iteration of a program. But it’s telling how “version 2.0” has acquired a more figurative meaning, as well. It has become a metaphor for any new and improved incarnation—especially one that represents a notable advancement. But we expect version 2.0 not only to update and add features to the initial version, but also to shed its predecessor’s flaws.
