CHAPTER AT A GLANCE
- India signed a Free Trade Agreement with Sri Lanka in December 1998.
- SAPTA (SAARC Preferential Trading Arrangement) was the first step towards the transition to SAFTA (South Asian Free Trade Area). It was signed on 11 April 1993, during the 7th SAARC Summit at Dhaka and came into effect on 7th December 1995.
- Pakistan has had three constitutions in its short history. Its first constitution came into force on 23rd March 1956 and was abrogated in 1958. Its second constitution came into force on 8th June 1962 and was abrogated on 25th March 1969. Pakistan’s third and current constitution came into force on 14th August 1973.
