4.3 Information integration

As you prepare for near-realtime BI, you will need to change many of your

business processes and your approach to processing the data. In most

companies much of the data resides in many heterogeneous data sources. This

data is currently captured by many different approaches. What is needed is a

standardized, common approach to access and capture these different sources

of data. And, one that minimizes the impact and knowledge requirements of your

application development staff. In addition, it should be one that enables you to

optimize that access to provide the performance you will need to satisfy the

current and growing data volumes that will be processed in near-realtime. IBM
