Using Humor in Presentations

Guidelines for Using Humor

  • Do you have the right to laugh?
  • If you are not a member of the group you are going to make fun of, then you must get permission from the group to do it.
  • Make humor a seamless part of the presentation.
  • You can’t make fun of someone else’s beliefs or what they consider to be sacred.
  • It is always appropriate to make fun of yourself.

In today’s world, we must be aware not to offend an individual or group when we use humor in presentations. We all have heard stories or read accounts of performers and presenters making a joke, a reference, or a comment that offends an individual or group.
