When I watch presentations, I see certain things happening again and again. In this chapter we will look at each of these ingredients, their importance and how you can use them. In the second half of this chapter, we look at how those ingredients form recipes.

When you’re learning a skill, it can be useful to have a lens to look through. When I am cooking a new recipe, I tend to make it the first time exactly as it’s written. Then when I get a feel for it, I’ll experiment. When you know your ingredients or a process, you can approach a recipe in a different way.
