5. Essential Security Modules for Apache

In the previous chapter, we discussed many Apache directives that had a potential impact on security. In this chapter, we will cover a number of additional modules whose main focus is to provide a security relevant service to Apache. These modules can play a significant role in Apache’s overall security and are wider in scope and complexity than individual directives in Chapter 4. This chapter will discuss both the installation and general functional overview of each module; however, we will not be covering all of the security directives because these will be presented throughout the remainder of the book as we are addressing specific countermeasures to web attacks.
