Carl Fowler, a sales manager at Engineering Solutions, has built his career by relentlessly trying to outshine his teammates. He’s a very bright guy, but in meetings he constantly restates and even takes credit for his teammates’ good ideas. As sportswriter Dan Jenkins once said about an egomaniacal film director, “He never lost a conversation.” When Jose says, “We need to focus more on implementation and less on strategy,” Carl jumps in with, “For weeks I’ve been saying we’ve got to stop looking at the forest and start chopping down trees.” Jose cringes.
