Abstract
Despite the annoying computational pitfalls in Big Data analysis, there are applicable techniques that are fast, simple, and that every desktop computer can perform. This chapter provides data scientists with some of the most useful tricks of the trade, that are suitable for data sets of any size and any level of complexity. All of the methods described in the chapter can be performed on modest desktop computers without the need for advanced software applications. The chapter provides fast and scalable methods that, along with the techniques to be described in Chapters 12 and 13, will provide ways of solving most of the common computational problems in Big Data analysis. ...
