Chapter 1. Understanding Digital Reproduction
Before the advent of digital imaging, reproducing your photos meant giving up creative control to a print lab. Sure, you could specify glossy or matte finish and the size you wanted, but that was about it. Your only other alternative was to set up your own darkroom, which certainly gave you more control but at the cost of a steep learning curve, especially for color reproduction.
Now that photo quality digital output devices are available and affordable, there’s no need to lose control and the learning curve is much more manageable. In this chapter, I’ll introduce you to the digital advantage and some of the basic terms you’ll need to know to understand the techniques in the rest of the book.
