Android UI Layout Conventions, Differences and Approaches
Now that we’ve covered basic user interface design patterns and principles for Android and how to use the Pencil user interface prototyping software, we can get into UI layout theory and practice. We will explore some of the UI layout-specific concepts, differences and approaches that will arise in Android development across the different types of hardware devices, screen sizes, pixel densities, screen orientations, and Android application types.
We’ll take a close look at the 48 DIP UI layout convention in this chapter as well as multi-pane layouts and types of compound view expansions that a developer can harness when a user changes their device orientation.
