Chapter 24. Performance Monitoring

In this chapter, we consider some of the tools available for monitoring the performance of a RAC cluster. At both the Oracle RAC and Linux operating system levels, our focus is on capturing and interpreting the statistics generated by the tools incorporated in both environments. At the database level, we will concentrate on using Enterprise Manager (EM) and the Oracle performance monitoring tools based on the Automatic Workload Repository (AWR) and Active Session History (ASH). At the operating system level, we will pay particular attention to the command line tools available in all Linux environments, such as top, sar, and netstat, that supplement the findings from Oracle tools.
